15- Alfred Hitchcock loves bikinis

In a small group we recreated a scene that follows the Kuleshov effect. before we did this we watched a video of Alfred Hitchcock explaining the effect, what it is and how to create it. These were our original ideas and what we based our videos on:

16- The Kuleshov effect

The Kuleshov effect is a film editing effect that was first done by the Russian filmmaker Lez Kuleshov in the 1910s-1920s. It is when a viewer can understand the meaning of a scene by two sequential shots. His examples are:  As this shows, two shots one after another can make the difference when the audience is deciding what the scene conveys. It can be as simple as the second shot showing different pictures, to help the audience decide what the character in the first shot is thinking, feeling or what kind of character they are. The first shot can be exactly the same but with the second one changing can change the outlook of the whole scene.

11- Ferris bueller's day off- Mise en scene

Ferris beuller's day off is an 80s teenage comedy in which the main character, a confident, sly and clever high schooler does everything he can to ensure that he doesn't get caught while skipping school. On this day that he is not at school him, his girlfriend Sloane and best friend Cameron take a trip to Chicago which has its ups and downs. When Cameron slumps himself into the water, Ferris throws himself after him and brings him to the surface where Cameron wakes up and states that he was fine and was joking about being mad. This image shows Cameron sitting in the back of the car, dazed while Ferris drives and Sloane turns to him to Comfort him. The way that Ferris is shown as not caring for hi...

9- Her mise en scene

Setting: This photo is set in a city, presumably quite a large city due to the size of the buildings seen in the background. Also because of the fact that there are many people in the background walking the streets showing that there is a large population. The man centred in the middle of the screen is clearly the character of focus in this scene. Lighting: The level of light in this picture is quite low, showing that it is either early in the day or late at night. The low levels of light may imply that the man in the focus of this scene is sad or anxious, which is also shown by his body language…. Figure expression: The character in this scene is shown folding his arms and looking down towards the floor, this implies that he is sad or maybe upset or vulnerable , due to the fact that he is trying to avoid eye contact and making his body as small as possible. Also, the people in the rest of the scene in the background are either in pairs or relationships or on their phone s...
